Tips for Healthy Communication
As we are in the world of duality, challenging times and people are going to arise. These challenges are our forgiveness opportunities, catalysts for healing when used correctly. As some of us are students of A Course in Miracles, we want to honour the Course's teachings and use these challenges for peace, so we get to a place in our minds where nothing can affect us. As we strengthen our commitment to thinking with Spirit, which is known as Right-Mindedness, we can help ourselves by setting healthy tones within our environment by welcoming peace.
We are taught in the Course that we are always teaching. We are either teaching the thought system of fear or the thought system of Love. When challenges will occur, you can be a teacher of Love and handle them with peace.
Here are my go-to spiritual tips for how to be Love when faced with a challenging conversation...
~ When I am faced with a tricky situation, I always take the time for reflection to...
We all experience hormone fluctuations, (yes, even men), and these rapid shifts can be a real pain in the arse. You find yourself cursing at an inanimate object or crying because of something cute on a West Jet commercial (yes, I’ve done that… twice last month to be exact), and once you’ve realized that perhaps you could be being just a tad bit ridiculous, you clue in… hormone surge!
As we all know, experiencing hormone fluctuations can be difficult. A hormone surge can induce anxiety, fatigue, a melancholy attitude, and even straight up rage! We never really feel like ourselves during that time, do we?
But it’s not all sadness, tears and swaddling your pet, like with anything, hormones can help you to heal.
Well, I find that when I’m experiencing PMS, my conscious mind is on hyper drive running through a series of negative events from my past or some made up fearful event about the future. Of course I recognize that this negativity is...
Some of the greatest joys of being on the spiritual path are those heartfelt moments of synchronicity, the kind which stop you in your tracks and make you smile as you get a hint that there is something bigger at work. These past few days have certainly played out that way for me and I honestly couldn’t be more grateful for the guidance as it led to me having a weekend I will truly never forget!
I was invited by John Beavin, dear friend of the legendary late ACIM teacher, Kenneth Wapnick to an event featuring Gary and Cindy Renard. Gary is the author of the incredible (and much-needed) book explaining the theory of ACIM, The Disappearance of the Universe (amoung other very helpful books) and his wife, Cindy who is also an ACIM teacher and author of A Course in Health and Well-being. So, I honestly did not want to miss the opportunity to learn and deepen my understanding of A Course in Miracles from the two teachers I resonate most with! The clincher was it was all going down...
One of our greatest challenges on the spiritual and mental health path is relinquishing our ego’s temptation to control, dissect and manipulate. I was faced with this challenge in the most potent way these past 5 weeks beginning with when I was away on my trip to New Zealand with my husband at the end of January. The day before we flew out of Calgary, we took our beloved dog, Guinness in to see the vet as he did not seem to be recovering from what we assumed was a case of Kennel Cough. The vet assured us that Guinness, although attuned to the fact that we were leaving on a trip, was going to be fine and he put him on some meds to help clear up the Kennel Cough.
My intuition was strong before and during this vet visit and I was waiting to hear the dreaded “C” word from the vet, that Guinness had cancer at which point I would stay home to be with Guinness and my husband could go on the trip to New Zealand to visit with his daughter. To my pleasant surprise though,...
With all the issues behind the misuse of social media, I wanted to hone in on the dominating factor behind why someone overuses social media and why someone abuses others on social media. Exposing the sneaky dynamics of what is really going on in the background of social media abuses is necessary to overcome this latest societal plague.
In my opinion, society is way too lax about what can be labeled as a weapon of mass torment. Social media, like so many things, was meant to be just that, a way of being social via media. Intended to be useful and bring people together, our ego-identified minds have allowed social media to be used for the ego’s agenda and to follow the ego’s chaotic formula for hatred to flourish. Our overexposure to the fear and negativity which runs rampant on social media has done a number on all of our very fragile self-esteems.
Everyone who is exposed to social media is exposed to its harmful effects, (that is unless you have an incredible...
How many actions demonstrated in our physical world are the result of guilt?
Guilt is acted out every instant of every day. Shame, anger, blame, grudges, belittling, punishment, violence, anxiety, reactiveness, and on and on and on. There are many effects of guilt and some of these effects are acted out on others and some are put on the self. If we see where we behave like this in our own lives we may recognize that there is a lot of guilt being thrown around!
So, why do we feel guilty?
A Course in Miracles teaches that it is because we feel that we separated ourselves from the Source of Love. And in so doing, we feel horribly guilty about it.
“What do I have to feel guilty about?” is a common question I hear from my clients, so if this also seems foreign to you and you are genuinely questioning whether this is relevant for you then try this… observe how you feel when a cop car pulls up behind you. You know that your insurance and registration is up...
This blog is about defining these well-used words for clarity purposes!
There is a ton of spiritual literature out there, or as my Mother would put it, “the market is saturated.” It is through my reading of many of these literary works that I have noticed that the terms conscious, unconscious and consciousness have both positive and negative definitions. Welcome to the world of duality! The world of good and bad. So, I thought it may be helpful to explain these terms so that when you are delving into your spiritual library, you are on board with the lingo. And also so you understand yourself more.
So, here goes!
Let’s begin with conscious.
The first definition presents conscious as a level of the mind. It is the mental level where you are wide awake. Here on this mental level you judge, analyze, decide and take action. In your conscious mind you can easily become agitated because your untrained mind is racing, chatting incessantly and you are also judging...
I love being altruistic! Whether it’s a candy bar for the homeless gentleman outside of the grocery store or donating to my favourite charities or anything in between, I’m all for it!
So, with this Holiday Season in full gear, I wanted to send a loving message about how when we help others, we are helping ourselves and everyone wins!
Law of the Mind #5, which is shared in my children’s book, My Mind Book, is “All Minds are Connected” and surely this is a law which I have repeated many times. If all minds are connected, then what I think, say or do to others, I am thinking about, saying to or doing to myself. In a positive light, this is why any act of being loving to others is so good for you!
Whether you are volunteering, giving a gift to someone, donating to a charity, smiling at someone who appears grumpy, or whatever it may be, you are being love and reinforcing love for both yourself and the other.
Remember from my series on the ego where you...
When it comes to disciplining your mind and using it to its BEST ability you gotta first begin with an understanding of where you’re at! That’s why this week I want to present to you a concept which will increase your self-awareness and amp up your self-empowerment! This week’s blog is about the baseline state.
What is the baseline state?
It is the place where you currently function from mentally. Your reactions, your triggers, your general daily feeling are all part of what contribute to your personal baseline state. Everyone’s baseline state is different as we all have different “glass half-full / half-empty” perceptions when it comes to a variety of situations.
“Awareness is the greatest agent for change.”
If you take a few moments to reflect on the thoughts which dominate your day, you can see what your state of mind is like.
Are you reactionary? Are you agitated? Are you negatively triggered by someone’s...
